Content
The representation and processing of information about events, their participants and their causal and temporal properties and relations is an important ingredient of systems of general information extraction, event summarization, time line determination, trend prediction etc. with applications in diverse domains such as personalized news systems, event monitoring and risk analysis. After an introduction to the most influential theories of event representation and the major datasets employed in challenges or shared tasks for event extraction, we will focus on recent developments in event extraction and classification in different domains of application, which - after a period of classical deep learning approaches - are currently to a great extent driven by the rise of Large Language Models.
